On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of QVF in Germany a symposium took place on the 10th of November. Customers from Germany and some export areas met in the Farorite hotel in Mainz and had a interesting day. Beneath many technical presentations a cabaret of five professors vt5 and the singer Mirka Mörle gave a performance during dinner.
The technical presentations were given as follows:
Fifty Years QVF
Dr. Joachim Korbach, CEO of QVF, welcomed the guests with a review of 50 years glass plants, the history of QVF Glastechnik and Schott Engineering, up to the common development of the World Product Range 2002.

Greetings from DDPS
Dr. Daniel Steck enlarged the review of a successful development for our parent company De Dietrich Process Systems for about another 300 years. Dr. Steck emphasised the importance of QVF for DDPS and has many expectations for the process systems activities, centred at QVF.

Transparency in System – Development of Glass
Walter Wedel, student for geology at the University of Mainz , explained the history of glass, starting from the first glass created by volcanism up to currently developed glass. His enthusiasm which inspired the guests, was based on 35 years of experience at Schott and QVF.

|
The Material Advantage – Resistance to Corrosion in Chemical Plants
Dr. Manfred Pertler, sales manager of QVF and Karl-Heinz Winter, manager of the technical department, explained with the examples of HCl and sulphuric acid how customers demand have initialised technical development. Through the combination of production and Engineering know-how DDPS is able to offer customised solutions.

About Sparking – Electrostatic in Chemical Plants
Dr. Friedrich Stoll, head of the material development centre of Rheinhold &Mahla, showed in a exciting presentation, mixed with some trials, the different types of electrostatic charge in chemical plants. Fortunately the nearby fire extinguisher was not needed, but we learned a lot about this phenomena.

|
First of it’s kind – Innovative Engineering
The necessity of differentiation in a small marked even for engineering orders was explained by Prof. Dr. Schadler, head of the Siemens department A&D SP. He introduced some successful jobs. Prof. Schadler is president of the GVC and vice president of DECHEMA. He invited all guests to come to Achema 2006.
|

|
From Molecules to Columns – Steps between Size Scales
Astonishing tools for extraction simmulation were introduced by Prof. Dr. Pfennig, head of the chemical engineering department of the University of Aachen. He maintained that in future the simulation program can be an alternative to current engineering of thermal separation.
|

|
Europe, the EU and the Euro
What can be moved in Science and technique without money? Prof. Sauernheimer explained what has to be done to increase German economy from his point of view. He added an amusing excursion to the function of currency in the past and today. Prof. Sauernheimer is professor for ecconomics at the university of Mainz.

 |
After dinner the cabaret vt5, his members are professors for chemical engineering, and the singer Mirka Mörle had a short appearance. Beneath songs about German economy and the priority of chemical engineering they presented a song about QVF especially made for this evening.

 |
Mirka Mörle,
art director of vt5 and head of the institute for voice development and communication in Aachen, closed the evening with three chansons.
