On Friday, the 2nd of February a new glass tank for borosilicate glass especially for QVF products was fired. A big financial investment, mainly by QVF, was necessary to have the tank 2 revamped and equipped with an electrical heating system.

Firing ceremony for the new glass tank

Dr. Korbach and other visitors of the ceremony

The first firing is traditionally an important date after the revamping of a glass tank. Similar to the topping-out ceremony a small party takes place. After good wishes from the management of the Duran Group and from QVF general manager Dr. Joachim Korbach, the tank was fired and closed. |

Ignition of the fire
|
On the picture you can see Dr. Korbach, together with Duran Manager, igniting the surface gas burners. For commissioning the tank is filled with glass granulate. To preserve the tank stones from damages, the temperature is increased very slowly. The heating needs about one week, before the conductivity of the glass is high enough to let the electrodes work and the electricity flow through the glass. |
After the content is melted the continuous feeding starts. On the counter side of the tank the melted borosilicate glass is discharged by the patented suction feeder and feed either to the manipulator, the spinning machine and the press.
